Mary Jo Crosley

She was born in Holly Springs, Arkansas, to Ray and Ola Crownover Owen and was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, George Robert Crosley, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses Melva Melton (Hugh), Margie Ola Hanna (Jim) and Phil Owen (Mariexa); sister-in-law Jane Crosley Wright and brother-in-law Walter Wright; and nephews Hugh “Tippy” Melton (Maryann) and Nathan Wisinger (Marilyn).

She is survived by daughter Georgene Jones of Baton Rouge, LA and son Davis Crosley (Kathy) of Muscatine, Iowa; grandchildren Andrea Crosley, Megan Romer (Chad); Kristan Brown, Owen Jones and Genevieve Jones (James Howard); and great grandchildren, Addison & Ethan Brown, Taylor & Becca Romer.

Mary Jo worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 20 years. She excelled in knitting and crocheting caps which she sent to deployed military troops. She loved sewing clothes for her granddaughters and their dolls. She especially loved working with pre-school children as a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church (where she was proud to be the oldest member) and was a “grandmother” at the Child Learning Center for many years.

She had a beautiful voice and sang in the Prime Timers’ choir, and her love of music was passed on to her family. She went on mission trips to Guatemala and Poland.

She loved to cook, especially for family. She was outgoing and had a smile that would light up the room. There was a special place in her heart for dogs, especially Li’l Girl Gleghorn, Lola Melton, Gracie Gaunt and her soulmate Corky.

Much gratitude goes to Andria Gleghorn, Joanna Melton and Nancy Rae Kinard for their frequent visits and the love they showed to Mary Jo throughout the years, and to the caregivers at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home.
