Melva Jean Washington

Born on December 13, 1924 in Springfield, MO; Melva was the daughter of Joseph and Jewel Crow Spires. An optimist, Melva was a loyal ‘Chicago Cubs’ fan. She was also a devoted mother and grandmother who loved cooking and caring for her family. Melva was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norphlet. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Bob Spires and her husband of 40 years Jack Washington.

Survivors are her daughters Lisa (Richard) Mc Cuistion of El Dorado, AR and Connie (Jim) Hughes of Edmond, OK, along with her grandchildren Sonja Blair, Michael Mc Gowen, Tripp Mc Cuistion and Codi Ann Mc Cuistion and 7 great Grandchildren.

Graveside services by Young’s Funeral Directors will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens at 10 am, Wednesday, October 16, 2013 with Rev. Lawrence Harrison officiating.

Melva’s family wishes to thank Dr Angela Norman, Melva’s caregivers Wanda and Carrie, and the staff of the John R Williamson Hospice House for the loving care they provided.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the John R Williamson Hospice House, 2301 Champagnolle Rd, El Dorado, AR 71730.
