Peggy Johnson

Peggy Nell Bartlett Johnson, 91, of El Dorado, Arkansas, went to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Timberlane Health and Rehab facility in El Dorado. She was born on August 9, 1934, in Simsboro, Louisiana, the daughter of E. D. Bartlett and Myrtie Robertson Bartlett. She attended and graduated from Simsboro High School in Simsboro, Louisiana.

Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Paul Johnson. Their love for each other was unconditional. They had 57 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they made a wonderful team, faithfully serving the Lord for 30 years as pastor and pastor's wife, positively impacting a countless number of people with the love of God. Many are in the "family of God" today because of Paul and Peggy's spiritual influence on their lives.

Peggy was a steadfast servant of the Lord. She loved God with all of her heart, soul, mind, and strength. Her love for God was evidenced by the way that she energetically served Him. The Bible was precious to her. Because of her passionate love for God and her deep love and concern for people, she spent countless hours studying the Word of God and teaching It, so that she would be able to lead others to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, have a better understanding of the Scriptures, and to grow in their faith. One highlight and privilege of her life was to teach Bible School and Sunday School clinics for the Louisiana Baptist Convention at the Baptist Building in Alexandria, Louisiana. Within the local church, Peggy taught all ages in the Sunday School classroom, including children, youth girls, young adult girls, adult ladies, and senior adult ladies.

Peggy was greatly involved in leadership roles within the Concord Baptist Association in Louisiana. She served as WMU (Women's Missionary Union) President and Director. She was GA (Girl's Auxiliary) Director at FBC Choudrant as well as GA Director for the Association.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, E. D. Bartlett and Myrtie Robertson Bartlett; her devoted husband and true love, Reverend Paul Dexter Johnson; her daughter-in-law, Robbie Johnson; three sisters— Mornita McCullen, Marie Kyler, and Mavis Frye; five brothers-Jim Ed Bartlett, Malcolm Bartlett, R. C. Bartlett, Harold Bartlett, and Leon Bartlett.

Peggy is the youngest of ten siblings with one surviving sister, Bobbie House. Peggy is, also, survived by three children who were her "pride and joy"—Dexter Johnson and wife Ann of Orlando, Timothy Johnson and wife Becky of Monroe, and Penny Griffin and husband Dennis of El Dorado; She is survived by thirteen grandchildren whose greatest joy for her was to know that they had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Her grandchildren are Jason Johnson, Stephanie Hanry, Sarah Johnson, Jonathan Johnson, Adrian Griffin, Danielle King, Nathan Johnson, Rebecca Frisbie, David Johnson, Paula Jones, Ashley King, Joshua Johnson, and Caleb Johnson. Peggy is, also, survived by twenty-eight precious great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved and adored. Peggy is survived by a host of her "church family" and loving friends, such as her childhood and longtime friend, Gloria Gulatt, who through the years have shared many conversations about life and the Lord.

The family would like to thank Timberlane Health and Rehab; Peggy's sitters-Ruthie Cheatham, Jean Daniels, and Cholette Kerch; and Life Touch Health-Noelle Harper, Sheena Kimble, Kacey Dees, Shirley Myers, and Cornesha Dunn for the wonderful care that you provided for our loved one. Our hearts are full of gratitude for each of you!

Peggy Nell Bartlett Johnson (mom, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend) leaves behind a godly legacy to her children, family, and friends as her life bore testimony to the goodness and faithfulness of God. Well done, good and faithful servant!

Visitation will be held at Young's Funeral Directors Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. with Dr. Clark Whitney officiating.

A graveside service will be held at Simsboro City Cemetery, Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. with Dr. Dexter Johnson and Dr. Tim Johnson officiating.
