

Born May 5, 1941 in El Dorado, she was the daughter of Paul and Eddie Mae Armer Harrell. Shirley loved people, life and gospel music. As a devoted Christian she sang in duets, trios and quartets. She spoke fondly of her career with the Arkansas Extension Service, having derived deep satisfaction from interaction with fellow employees, the general public and especially the children.
Three days before her death she fulfilled her duties as church pianist at Hickory Grove Chapel where she actively participated in a loving church family.
Shirley was preceded in death along with her parents, a sister, Faye Harrell Springer and two brothers, Cecil Harrell and Farnum Harrell.
Survivors include her husband of almost 19 years, Truett West , her son, Darin Wayne Shelton (Jody), a granddaughter, Allyson Shelton McAllister (Quentin), a grandson, Andrew Darin Shelton (Shayna), four great-grandchildren, Braylon, Jackson and Braxton McAllister and Waylon James Shelton along with sisters, Maxine Harrell Prentice and Sue Harrell Hughes and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her husband's four children, Terri West Towns, Marta West Harris, Jason Todd West and Janna West Crowe together with their children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2026 in Young's Chapel, preceded by visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Interment will follow in Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
