She was born on December 16, 1952 in El Dorado, AR to Percy and Elvira Slater, the baby of nine siblings. She married her soulmate, Tommy Parker, Sr., on November 21, 1980. Velma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very strong woman who made sure everyone around her was taken care of and happy. She loved to spend time with her family and prepare holiday events. Everyone around her knew she was blessed with many abilities, (if you ate Mamma's chicken and dumplings, you know what I am saying). She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her father, mother, four sisters, and two brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy Parker, Sr.; sons, Larry Roton (Donna), Ricky Roton (Amy), Tommy Parker, Jr. (Candace); daughter, Tina Tatum; eight grandchildren; life long friends, Doug and Janet Boyette; sister, Inez Darden, brother, Luther Slater; and numerous family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27, at Young's Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, at Young's Chapel. Burial will follow at Scotland Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
