Virgil grew up in Texarkana, where he met and married the love of his life, Kay Smith. On October 22, 2026, they celebrated an extraordinary milestone—71 years of marriage, a testament to a lifetime of love and devotion.
In 1964, Virgil and Kay moved to El Dorado, where he began a 35-year career with Procter & Gamble, retiring after decades of dedicated commitment. During retirement, he continued to enjoy working part-time as an IRS Registered Tax Return Preparer. He especially enjoyed this work because it gave him the opportunity to meet people, build relationships, and engage with others. Virgil was a longtime and faithful member of College Avenue Church of Christ. He loved being with his church family where he served as a deacon for many years. He was also a generous supporter of camp Kurios, Children’s Homes in Arkansas and Indian Missions.
Virgil was at his best when he was surrounded by his grandchildren. He loved and adored each one of them, and some of his happiest times were spent making memories with them. He especially loved taking trips with his grandchildren, enjoying the time together and the special experiences they shared. His grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy, and the love he had for them was evident to everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard Grigson and Luther Grigson.
Virgil is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Kay (Smith) Grigson; his two sons, John A. Grigson (Glenda) of Lubbock, Texas, and Jerry W. Grigson of El Dorado; and his grandchildren, Ashleigh Grigson of Lubbock, Texas, Sarah Aiken and Matthew Grigson of West Monroe, Louisiana, and J. Harrison Grigson (Erin) of Lubbock, Texas. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Bailye Aiken of West Monroe, Louisiana, and J. Everett Grigson of Lubbock, Texas.
