Alice G Miner

October 5, 1929February 23, 2018

Alice Grant Miner passed into the arms of a loving God on Feb. 23. She was preceded in death by her son, the Rev. Curtis J. Miner; parents Stephen G. Grant and Charlotte Baird Grant; and brothers Wayne S Grant, Stephen W Grant, and M.D. Grant. Alice was born Oct. 5, 1929, in El Paso. She graduated from Ysleta High School where she played flute in the band. While at Ysleta, Alice joined the Civil Air Patrol where she met her lifelong love Earl Miner. After high school they were separated, first by family illness and then Earl's U.S. Army service in Korea, where he earned the Purple Heart. After his military service, they reconnected and married on Feb. 26, 1959. They bought a home on the East side near Scotsdale Elementary and built a life together. They especially enjoyed square dancing. In 1963, Alice and Earl adopted their son, Curtis John Miner. Alice worked in payroll and accounting for Safeway and the Chevron Refinery before finding her call as secretary at Ysleta Methodist Church and Vista Ysleta United Methodist Church for 28 years. Working with more than 10 ministers, she tracked the church's finances and helped each pastor to serve the congregation. Her love for the church was reflected in Curtis, who graduated from Perkins School of Theology and was pastor a First UMC in Shiprock, N.M., when he died in an auto accident in 2006. Alice cared for strays beginning in childhood in the Lower Valley, and through the years, Alice, Earl and Curtis enjoyed the unconditional love of a variety of pets, and supported several animal welfare charities. Alice is survived by her husband of 59 years, Earl Miner, and nephew Joe Grant (Annette) of Phoenix. Visitation will start at 10:00am, March 05, 2018 at Vista Ysleta United Methodist Church, 11860 Rojas. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am at Vista Ysleta United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Blvd. at 1:00pm. Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home East.
