Alonzo G. Vasquez, 92, passed away on August 25, 2024 at his Lower Valley home. He was born in Marfa, Texas on March 11, 1932. He was one of seven children born to Abran and Elvira Vasquez. He attended Blackwell School in Marfa. As a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, he saw combat duty in the Korean War. Following military service, he settled in El Paso and married Rose Mary Urias. They were married for 54 years before she preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Elvira Prieto. Left to cherish his memory are five children; Dennis (Lynn), David, Sandra Rios (Rene), Eddie (Azul), and Jim (Laura); 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 2, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N Carolina Drive, with a rosary service at 7:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 8011 Williamette Avenue; followed by a gravesite service with military honors at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
