

Armando “Muggins” Ruiz, 72, native of El Paso, passed away on April 2, 2015. He was surrounded by his family at Orange Coast Memorial Hospital, in Fountain Valley, CA. An alumnus of El Paso High School (1960), he played baseball, football, and basketball. He earned bachelors and masters degrees from UTEP. Devoted to education, Muggins impacted many in the 40 years he spent working as a teacher, administrator, and counselor.
Muggins is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cathy, son Jaime (wife Christina), daughter Amanda “Mandy” (husband Walter), and youngest son, Armando Jr. “A.J” (wife Mena). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Nico (9), Nash (5), Carolina (4), and William (2). Muggins also leaves behind his sister Martha, brother Carlos (wife Mary), brother Junior (wife Tresa), sister Patsy (husband Paul), and sister Irma (husband Bob). Muggins, generous and loved by many, was a model of unconditional love not only for his family, but also for many friends whom he loved and treated like family.
Visitation will be held April 10 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home West. Funeral Mass will be April 11 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Cathedral. Interment will follow at Evergreen Alameda Cemetery alongside his mother Carolina and father Guillermo.
