Ray graduated from Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City. He excelled in Track and Basketball. He pursued a Degree in Hospitality Management from University of Phoenix. Ray was a decorated service member with an extensive Military career in the United States Army and Marine Corps. He served 5 combat and overseas tours and retired in 2012 with the rank of Sergeant First Class after 21 years of active duty service. He was always incredibly proud to be of service to his country and the soldiers he mentored throughout the years.
He was a faithful brother of the Masonic Order and a Die Hard North Carolina Panther fan. He enjoyed watching sports and bringing others together with social gatherings. He loved to cook and entertain. He was an avid watcher of Black Cinema and Music. Those around him were drawn to infectious personality. Ray touched the lives of so many through his travels around the world and opened his home to many.
Ray is preceded in death by his mother Arnita Gregory.
He is survived by his children Demikal Bell with wife Shannon Bell, Grandson Mikey and Daughters Mirical Bell and Nikera Mckie, Grandson Li’Mikal Ra’Mae Bell from 1st wife Lafonda Hillary. 3 Step Children from his 2nd wife Savita Bell. His father Percell Bell, Brothers Lescell Gregory with wife Dr. Lisa Gregory, Percel Snowden and Stephon Glass.
A special thanks goes to his Eldest Brother Lescell Gregory who was his protector, confidante and peacemaker. His cousin Sesame Teague, Aunts Charlotte, Jacqui and Breda.
Ray will be missed by all those he left behind. Our hearts are broken with this unexpected loss. He has a host of friends that will miss his candor, conversation and unwavering spirit.
Inurnment will be Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.
