

Our beloved Atilano "Tito" R. Mendoza has gone home to be with Our Heavenly Father. He has completed his journey into Eternal Peace. He passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family. His greatest reward in life was being married to his wife Maria Magdalena "Nena" Villa Mendoza for 64 years. Tito was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He was a very patriotic American. He proudly served in the US Navy with the rank of Aviation Machinist's Mate (Hydraulic) Petty Officer Third Class. He was a WWII veteran and received the Victory Medal for serving on the Air Pac Pool, Nav 939 CASU (F) 44. After he received an Honorable discharge, he attended Texas Western College (now UTEP), and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Tito was a teacher at Zavala, Burleson, and Beall Elementary Schools. He taught for 38 years; 34 of those years were at Burleson. Both he and his wife were educators for the El Paso Independent School District.
He was preceded in death by his parents Atilano H. Mendoza and Guadalupe Carrasco Mendoza; his siblings Celia M. Schlusing, Eliza M. Hill, Dora Mendoza, and Cesar G. Mendoza; his nephew Richard Mendoza, and his nieces Marlene Batres and Sheila Mendoza.
He is survived by his wife Maria Magdalena Mendoza, nieces Heidi Schlusing, and Sandra Garley; grand-nephew Victor Lee Batres; grand-nieces Amanda H. Herrera, Heidi A. Herrera and Julie Ana Batres; and great grand-nephews Trent Herrera, Anthony Batres, and David Batres.
The family would like to thank his caregiver Alma Patricia Rito Lairos for her loving care for Tito.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 23rd from 5PM to 9PM with Rosary beginning at 7PM at Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home (8817 Dyer, El Paso, TX 79904). Mass will be held Thursday, August 24th at 11:30AM at San Antonio de Padua Church (503 Hunter, El Paso, TX 79915), followed by Burial at 1PM at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery; with reception from 2PM to 5PM at Community Baptist Church (7801 Phoenix, El Paso, TX 79915).
