Audrey Jean Lillard Schafer, died peacefully to the final chords of, “My Faith Has Found a Resting Place”, on November 16, 2016. She was born in Ackerly, Texas to Beulah and Glen Lillard. She was married to Bill Schafer, Jr. in 1952. Audrey was a devoted wife and mother. She also became known as a wedding cake, birthday cake or any other special day cake maker and caterer. But, her biggest love was Missions. She had a heart for those in need and was always trying to find ways to help. She was involved in Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), Thanksgiving Baskets, Christmas gifts for the Orphanage in Juarez, and worked with the Baptist Association in El Paso. She was overcome with joy when she was able to go on a couple of Mission trips to Mexico. An underlined verse in her Bible states, “Buy my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19. As she wrote in her Bible, “God provides the provision before you have the problems” and “Don’t pray answers, pray prayers.” The Lord surely supplied all that she needed and she tried to supply the needs of others through her mission work. Preceding her in death is her husband, William Shafer, Jr. brothers, Ernest Lillard and Travis Lillard. Survivors include her daughters Cam Schafer of El Paso, Coyne Schafer of Amarillo, her son and his wife, Gary and Janet Schafer of Mt. Juliet, TN and one grandson Christopher of Mt. Juliet, TN. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dolores Lillard of Big Spring, a brother-in-law and his wife, Martin and Anna Schafer of El Paso, and several nieces and nephews. And she is survived by her special caregivers who became part of our family, Patty Chavez, Susie Rex, Holly Hernandez and Amanda Chavez. In lieu of flowers please honor our mother’s heart for mission work by making donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, Gideon Bibles, First Baptist Church (FBC) Foundation or your favorite mission outreach at FBC. Thank you on behalf of the Schafer family for all the care, concern and prayers over the years. Family will receive guests for visitation, November 22, 2016 from 6:00-8:00pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home, located at 1060 N. Carolina Dr. El Paso, Texas 79915.
