Barbara was born on February 6, 1947, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and the family moved to El Paso, Texas, in 1950. Barbara and her family lived briefly in Dallas, Texas during the 1980’s, but returned to El Paso where she lived for the rest of her life.
Barbara attended Houston Grammar School and graduated from Austin High School. After graduating from high school, she continued her studies, earning her license as a nurse and began her lifelong calling to care for people in their moments of need.
Barbara and her husband, Bob, were married for more than 30 years. They shared a love for animals -- they had many dogs and cats over the years. During childhood, she tried to bring home every stray kitten that crossed her path. Barbara and her sister, Donna, were often tasked with feeding a neighbor’s chickens and collecting their eggs.
She delighted in being outdoors and could often be found at home in her garden with Bob preparing for the arrival of spring. She often involved her grandchildren in gardening activities and especially enjoyed the moments when the tortoises that lived in her back yard would come out from their hiding places and join them in all the fun.
Barbara’s home always reflected the seasons as she loved to decorate for every holiday. She and Bob loved entertaining and their home was always the base for all of the holiday celebrations.
Barbara is survived by her son, David Macias; grandchildren: Rebecka (Nathan), Kayla, Shavon, Rose, Fathia, Blake, Frankie (Paul), Lillie, and Brandon (Annie); great grandchildren: Sofia, Nolan, and Emmie Jo; sister Donna (Bob) and brother Kenny; stepdaughters Christy and Cindy, along with many cousins and friends.
