

Bertha Irene Garcia Little passed away on July 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving and caring family. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born in El Paso, TX on April 15, 1939, to Ateno Garcia and Sally Ruiz Garcia. Bertha spent her entire life in El Paso and Chaparral raising a family that consisted of children, grandchildren and foster children. Her heart was full of love, kindness and compassion.
Bertha had eight children from her first marriage, and in 1971 met and married her soulmate, Gene Little. He had five children of his own and they became a blended family. Gene and Bertha started and long maintained several businesses, including Little and Sons House movers, Chaparral Sand and Gravel, a concrete business and a tire recycling business. They were creators of a Chaparral, NM newspaper named “The Beacon”.
Bertha worked as a school safety officer both at Andress and Gadsden High Schools. Years later she became a school board member for the Gadsden ISD. She was a Republican Poll Leader and a Precinct Judge in Chaparral, NM.
Gene and Bertha were instrumental in the growth of Chaparral and were pillars in the community. They were dedicated partners in all aspects of life.
Bertha was a loving and giving person. She never hesitated to bless others by sharing what she had. Everyone who knew her admired her generosity and sense of selflessness.
Her style was unique and had a flair all her own. She always wore flowing garments, colorful scarves, dangling earrings and her makeup was meticulous. She never let a chance to dress up pass her by.
Bertha was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Gene, her parents, Ateno and Sally Garcia, her sister, Irma, and her brother, Ateno, Jr (aka Sonny). Bertha is survived by her children, Steve (Magda), Rick (Cecilia), Terri (Victor), Sharon, Lynda (David), Martha (Harold), Judi (David), Bertha
(Frank), Edward, Roger (Diane), Jessica (Danny), Joseph (Susan), and Bonnie (Rick), 28 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, two very close friends Joyce Conner and Kathy Guyton, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, August 14 at Hope City Community Church, 6115 Woodrow Bean, El Paso, TX at 11:00 am. A 1:30 pm graveside service will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
