Brandon Jonathan Johnson was born on March 3, 1988 at William Beaumont Army Hospital, in El Paso, TX. He was a long awaited blessing in the making (7 years) and his birth was prophesied to his parents at Greater Mt. Calvary COGIC by Elder/Prophet Jackson.
Together with his parents, he lived in San Jose, CA and Kempner, TX (Pershing Park Baptist Church), before relocating back to El Paso at the age of 6, courtesy of the military.
Brandon was baptized by his godfather, the late Pastor William Blakes and became a lifetime member of Antioch Baptist Church Christian Joy Center at the age of 7.
He attended Dr. Nixon Elementary (1st - 5th) Ginny Hunt, principal; St Raphael Parochial School (6th - 8th) Elizabeth Wiehe, principal; and Jesus Chapel School (9th - 12th) Alba and Gary Wilcox, principal and pastor
He was a vital part of Antioch Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir, being an usher, and participating in Vacation Bible School and various other activities.
Following a brief stint in the army, he settled back in El Paso, where he enjoyed working for the Veterans Administration until becoming very ill. Indeed, he encountered and suffered through many illnesses and accompanying difficulties from the age of 17 months without complaining.
Brandon was a beloved and loyal friend to many and they were right by his side encouraging him and loving him until the very end. We, his family, owe them a debt that can never be repaid. I hope they are comforted by the knowledge that he called them by name repeatedly and asked to talk to and see them while hospitalized.
We, his parents, are comforted by the vision his sister shared with us on the day of his crossing into glory. Brandon stared off into space while repeatedly saying ‘I see Steph and Alfred!’
I immediately called her on the phone and was told the following - She saw her grandparents come into her home and walk over to sit beside Brandon. The three of them then looked at her and her husband silently smiling.
We now understand… Jesus sent out a welcoming party.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Lottie Spears of El Paso, TX, Supt Curtis Spears and Missionary Sally Spears, of Los Angeles, California, Ruth Corbin, of Winnsboro, Louisiana, and Charlie Hamilton of Portland, OR; four aunts; Julia Mae Glasper of Winnsboro, Louisiana, Ruthena Thompson of Chicago, IL, Dinah Braxton of Los Angeles, CA, Supervisor Gloria Lynch, of San Diego, CA, and Michelle Hamilton of Portland, OR, and two uncles; William Spears of San Bernardino, CA and Supt.
