Well, where to begin, if you were to ask his friends they would tell you he was a kind soul, considerate of other people's feelings, and always ready to lend a helping hand. His friends would tell you he was the kind of guy you just couldn't help but like, and if you asked his brother David, he would tell you he was his partner in crime. Growing up, if there was trouble to be found, Dave was at the lead and Carl right behind him, watching his back. As they got older if there was a party or a bar where friends gathered Dave would be there with Carl by his side.
See, not only were they brothers but they were buddies, yeah, if you ask Dave, he will tell you he's going to miss his buddy. When Carl was introduced to Dave's daughter Melissa, he smiled and said, "I'm an uncle now", and an uncle he was. Carl would comb her hair, play with her in the pool, which she would drive you crazy, always wanting to play in the pool but that never stop him from playing, all she had to do is ask and he was there, that's just the kind of uncle he was. If you ask his parents what kind of guy he was, they will tell you he was their baby boy, I know he was my dad's favorite, I think it was because my dad knew the world could be a cruel place and Carl was such a kind soul.
I could tell he was worried for him because he knew there were bad people who would take advantage of his kindness. If you ask my mom what kind of person, he was she would tell you he was her baby boy there was nothing she wouldn't do for him. When he was in a terrible car wreck that almost killed him, she was by his side day and night and never left his side; when he got shot again, she was also by his side day and night. No matter how much we asked her to go home and rest she would say, "No I'm staying by my baby boy's side because he needs me".
You have to understand that Carl had rough life; he cheated death twice, Carl had one special trait, he never gave up no matter how bad the odds were. If you only knew how close to death, he was both times you would understand his strength, and when he found out he had Parkinson disease, he tried his best to beat it, but this was a battle he couldn't win.
I don't know if he just got tired of fighting such a vicious disease or if God told him, it was time to lay down the sword and rest. He had fought so many wars that maybe it was time to find peace in heaven. And there is Glen, if you asked him about his brother he would say, "Who do you think wrote the story".
Lay down your sword brother and go in peace.
