

Long-time El Paso resident Cecil Edward “Ed” Johnston passed away on August 25, 2025 in El Paso, TX.
He was born on April 18, 1940 in Alachua, Florida to Cecil Herbert Edward Johnston and Helen Mabel (Cocke) Johnston and grew up in Ocala, FL.
He graduated from Ocala High School and, later from the University of Florida, then began a career in the U.S. Army. After retirement, he became a systems analyst for future air defense forces and worked on Hawk and Patriot missile improvements.
Ed was very active in St. Luke United Methodist Church and was involved with the Gideons in El Paso. He enjoyed astronomy, science fiction and stamp collecting, but his family was his greatest joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kathy Cepeda and his beloved wife of 57 years, June Ann (Putz) Johnston.
Ed is survived by his son Ted Johnston (Rosie) of San Antonio, TX, his daughter Jan Nichols (Mike) of El Paso, TX, grandchildren David Nichols (Vanessa), Allison Nichols, and Logan Johnston, and great-granddaughter Sophia Nichols, as well as his brothers Stephen Johnston and David Johnston.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 9915 Montwood Dr., El Paso, TX. Graveside service at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 2:30 P.M.
