It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Charles Dekle. Born in Estelline, Texas on April 4, 1924, he was one of twelve children and is preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He passed peacefully in El Paso, TX on October 22, 2019 after a long life filled with love and laughter.
He shared a rare and everlasting love with his wife of over 40 years, Carmen, to whom he was deeply dedicated as she was the love of his life. He is survived by his wife, Carmen; their children, Carmen Tinajero, and son Carlos (Linda) Tinajero; grandchildren, Clarisse (Cheryl) Rollman-Tinajero, Joseph (Victoria) Tinajero, and Mariana Aun; great grandchildren, Rowan and Gregory Rollman; and nieces and nephews, Kenneth (Ana) Merritt, and many more. He was the backbone and patriarch of a great family.
As a young man, Charles served in the United States Army and was stationed in Europe during WWII for which he received the European - African - Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal. Later, he retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad where he worked as an engineer. After retirement he moved to Anthony N.M. where he built a small farm, grew and harvested alfalfa, and loved living life in the country.
Though our “papa” “grampy” “grandpa” has passed over, he leaves us with a huge legacy of hard work, heartfelt memories, many laughs, smiles, and now bittersweet tears. He will always be cherished and loved.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to family and friends for their undying love and support. We offer our most sincere thanks to all of his doctors, especially Dr. Alfonso Chavez who treated him with the utmost care, compassion, and who was always just a phone call away. We would also like to thank all of the staff and doctors of Sierra Medical Center, especially Dr. Berumen, the emergency room, the third and fourth floors, and the rehab unit.
