

Charles Smith, the pillar of strength, protector, and the heart and soul of our family whose love, wisdom and presence held our family together was called home on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2024, at the age of 91 while a patient at the Hospital of Providence East. He was born in Fort Pierce, Florida, traveled around the world during his military assignments and retired from active duty while stationed at Fort Bliss, TX, August 31, 1974.
Charles remained in El Paso where he was employed and volunteered with several agencies and organizations making a significant impact on the El Paso community. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Mary Smith; daughter, Sylvia Fuller; daughter, Janice Singleton; son, Carl Smith, sister, Muriel Clark and brother, Thomas Smith. Charles also leaves behind 2 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Charles Smith was preceded in death by Erskine and Emily Smith (parents), Van Buren Smith, Holly Smith and Ronell Smith (brothers); Bloneva Smith, Myrtis Smith, Evatine Foxx (sisters); Charles Smith Jr. (eldest son); Kendall McDonald (grandson); LaBertha (niece); Charles A. Smith, LaBertha Mason (nephews).
Visitation for Charles will be held Friday, January 24, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Drive, TX 79936. A chapel service will occur Friday, January 24, 2025 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, 1460 George Dieter Dr, El Paso, Texas 79936.
Fellowship will occur Friday, January 24, 2025 from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, 1460 George Dieter Dr, El Paso, Texas 79936. Services can be viewed via https://linktr.ee/CelebratingCharlesLSmith . A graveside service will be held January 31, 2025 1pm. at the Central Texas State Veteran Cemetery, 11463 Fort Hood St, Killeen, TX 76542.
