

Charles Reed Smith, passed away July 31, 2026. He was born September 22, 1930 in El Paso, Texas. Charles was a graduate of Austin High School and served as a US Marine in Korea from 1951 through 1953. He retired from the El Paso Natural Gas Company in 1985 after 32 years.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Barbara and daughter Kathy (Feidner). He is survived by his daughter Susan (Terry) McMillan and LuAnn (Bill) Loweny, 4 grandchildren, Kyle (Julie) McMillan, Jessica (Robert) Fernandez, Joshua (Kacey) Feidner and Sarah (Jeremy) Cotton, and 5 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Madalynn McMillan and Caden, Wyatt and Graison Cotton.
Charles was an avid baseball and softball player and fan. Starting at the age of 14. He was a baseball pitcher until 1958, all the while playing softball as a 1st baseman.
He played in 12 International Softball Congress Tournaments and was a member of the 1961 and 1962 world softball Tournament winning teams for the ISC. He was inducted into the El Paso Softball Hall of Fame in 1977, into the El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989, into the International Softball Congress Hall of Fame in 1983 and into El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989. Charles also served several years as commissioner of the West Texas / New Mexico area; Southern Vice President, Treasurer of the Carol Forbes Foundation and Treasurer all in the ISC.
