Returned to Our Father in Heaven on the evening of March 24, 2025, surrounded by Family
With deep sadness and everlasting love, we dedicate this page to the memory of Charlotte “Shorty” Sanchez: a woman of strength, perseverance, and unmistakable devotion to her family.
Born in El Paso and raised in Canutillo, Texas, “Shorty” was the beloved daughter of Luis Salcido Jr. and Simona Vasquez. The third of eight children, “Shorty” embodied resilience, generosity and intelligence, qualities that would not only define her, but shape the family that she built.
“Shorty” spent over twenty years as a dedicated secretary at Mountain Pass Canning Company (Old El Paso) where her strong work ethic and dedication made her a respected and admired talent. She was proud of her career, but above that, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother—a role she cherished most.
“Shorty’s” love was best expressed through the things she created and shared with her loved ones: the warmth of her home-cooked Mexican dishes, the care in her hand-embroidered aprons, and the pride she passed down in teaching her kids to cook, bake and quilt. When she wasn’t reading or solving a crosswords, she was teaching, cooking or making a doily. She shared her recipes and extensive library with her family and grandchildren before she left. She carried a strong faith in God and spent fifty years by the side of her devoted husband, Mariano.
She was the heart of her family, a constant source of encouragement, instruction, and love. Whether through a care package filled with homemade chocolate caramels, peanut brittle, pumpkin empanadas, or a box of Bizcochos, toothpaste and clothing for her great-grandchildren, she always knew how to make those she loved feel noticed. Her emoji-filled text messages, sharp wit, and gracious encouragement in her family will be deeply missed.
Charlotte leaves behind a family grateful for her love, and longing for just a few more moments with her.
Charlotte leaves behind her two children: Manny (Stephanie) and Debi (Jim,) grandchildren; Aaron (Bianca), Deborah Lynn (Will), Jimmy (Mai), and Manny III, great grandchildren; Bella, Atlas, Apollo, Braxton and Leovani, siblings: Louie, Albert, Joe, Nellie, Alice, and Linda, preceded in death by Luis Jr, Simona, Rosa, and her son Mario Madrid.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace, dancing and dining at the reunion as she watches over us.
You can Rest peacefully now, Shorty.
Your job here is done but your love will never fade.
