Born on September 27, 1971, in El Paso, Texas, Cheryl was the cherished daughter of Dorothy and Ernest Capoldi. She dedicated her life to education and touched the lives of countless students throughout her nearly three-decade teaching career.
Cheryl graduated from St. Mary's University in 1993 and earned a Masters in English from The University of Texas at El Paso in 1995. She began her teaching career at Father Yermo School in 1996, taught at Gadsden High School from 1997 to 1999, and spent the majority of her career at Coronado High School, where she served from 1999 until her retirement in 2025. Known for her dedication, wit, and genuine care for her students, Cheryl made a lasting impact on her school community.
Those who knew Cheryl will remember her extraordinary sense of humor, her love of laughter, and her gift for bringing people together. A natural storyteller and humorist, she delighted friends with her quick wit, memorable one-liners, and endless collection of entertaining stories. Cheryl also expressed her love through cooking, often sharing gourmet meals and creating treasured memories around the table.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Cheryl was deeply devoted to her beloved husband, James, her friends, and beloved cats. She was an avid reader, a loyal colleague, and a generous supporter of animal rescue organizations and local cat charities. Her kindness extended to the children, families, and pets of those she loved, making everyone fortunate enough to know her feel like part of her extended family.
Her beloved husband, James Huston predeceased Cheryl as well as her Mother and Father, Dorothy and Ernest Capoldi, and brother, Ernest Capoldi, Jr. She is survived by her sisters and their husbands Debbie and Dr. Jose Ortega, Karen and Don Elkins and her sister-in-law Charla Huston, and her nieces and nephews: Veronica Ortega, Adrienne Ortega, Lindsey Mariona, Kevyn Elkins, Constance Myers-Chase, and Alexander Myers-Huston.
Celebration of Life will be held at Martin Funeral Home,128 Resler Drive, El Paso 79912 on Saturday, September 5,2026 at 11 am to 3 pm. Donations to any local animal shelter in Cheryl’s name is appreciated.
