Col. Joe F. Veytia went to Heaven on July 29, 2026, at 98 years old. Josephine (Josey), his wife, who had just celebrated her 93rd birthday, joined him in Heaven 6 days later on August 4, 2026. They shared almost 70 years of a great marriage.
Col. Joe F Veytia, a native of El Paso served 42 years in the United States Army, enlisting in 1946 as a Private, then promoted through every enlisted and officer grade and retiring as a Colonel. He was most proud to have served as the Military Attaché for the US Embassy in Paraguay, South America. He earned many awards and prestigious medals. During his career, Joe was involved with the Nike Missile, Huey and Cobra helicopters at Bell Helicopter, and later the Patriot Missile with Raytheon at WSMR. After retiring from those careers, he was involved in real estate and worked tirelessly into his 90’s. Joe was a proud New Mexico State Aggie, an El Paso High Tiger, and a Vilas Elementary Cowboy but was most proud to have served as an American soldier. Joe, a faithful Catholic, was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He set a great example to his family.
Josephine, a native of El Paso, also a graduate of El Paso High, was Joe’s greatest blessing in his life. She faithfully supported Joe through all the family’s adventures, travels, and career. She was a lady of ladies, always humble, loved being a supportive wife and mother, could make friends with anyone, brought peace to every relationship, and clearly demonstrated unconditional love to her children. She had a love for playing cards and looked forward to her weekly card games with her hobby lobby friends. She loved holidays and serving others was her gift.She enjoyed her sisters like life-long friends and their children. Josey, a faithful Catholic, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, gave us another great example for this life.
The last days they both were surrounded by friends, family and loved ones. Joe and Josie were blessed with exceptional caregivers she considered family. A big thank you to Oscar Moreno PA, Norma, Ceci, and Doris.
Joe’s parents were Jose Tomas and Carolina Veytia. Josey’s parents were Jose Conde and Maria Francisca Conde Orvallanos.
Joe and Josey are survived by their four children: Joe Veytia Jr (Grandchildren: Ross, Heath, Carly, and John) Albert Veytia, Dolores Veytia Dunbar (spouse, Jay) and Cynthia Veytia Holland, (spouse Bill),(Grandchildren: Lindsey and Brandon. Great Grandchildren: Peyton, Liam, and Lilah Josephine)
