I last saw Chris more than 40 years ago when I transferred back to Wisconsin from the Dallas.   I had worked in the FDIC Regional Office with Chris for two years, during which time we became great friends.  As mentioned by others, he was a great storyteller and to this day I share those stories with others.  

It was just today, as I have aged and reminisce about old friends, that I found out he has passed.

Rest in peace Dear Friend and keep sharing those stories.

He was a wonderful boss and a very fair minded person.  I consider it a privilege to have worked for him at the FDIC in Austin.  I am sure he would have had plenty to say about the current financial situation.  He was a very wise man.

Our most sincere condolences to the entire Abreo family.  Chris was a highly respected mentor and colleague, and most importantly an amazing friend.  We missed our monthly Chili’s happy hours once he moved “back home” to El Paso, but fortunately were still able to see him occasionally.  He could not have been more hospitable when we visited him in El Paso.  We miss him dearly, especially his story telling.  He could make us laugh like no other!  Our loss is heaven’s gain.  Rest in peace mi amigo.

Chris and I have been close friends for over 50 years.   We traveled together with our wives over the years and just enjoyed life.  The one thing about Chris is that as your friend he treated you like a member of his family.  We worked together and Chris never mixed working and play.  He enjoyed both but kept them separate.  

When my wife was going through surgery at MD Anderson and my daughter and granddaughter were setting in the waiting room for what would be a procedure lasting more than 12 hours, I looked up and here came Chris and our close friend Tom Benge.  Chris had driven over from Austin and both spent much of the day with me.  For much of life, it's not what you say, it's what you do and that is just one example of the man Chris was and friend he was to others.  I've told him several times that as an only child, Chris was the brother I never had.  

Knowing Chris and his family has been a blessing to me and I am grateful.

I loved working with Chris in the Dallas Field Office of the FDIC.  He was a Great person and bank examiner.  I will miss him greatly.  Bruce May,  Retired FDIC Bank Examiner.

Chris also supported his examination staff a 100% of the way.   No matter how difficult the situation, you could count on Chris to issue strong words of support so that you could get the job done and move on to the next examination.   He had your back, a 100% support in every situation, never wavering. 

My sincere condolences to Chirs's family.   Chris was my supervisor for 12 years in the Austin Field Office.   We shared many experiences during those difficult years of banking supervision.   Chris could be a tough guy to work for but if it wasn't for him pushing us all along, we would never have successfully completed so many difficult assignments; just one after the other.   On a personal note, I can say that Chris was very understanding when it came time for employees to spend time with family, consoling us as needed and always allowing us the leave we needed to be with family.
