

Mother Virginia A. Taber, father Brig. Gen. Alden P. Taber, and daughter Sandra Taber preceded him in death.
David was born at Fort Amador in the Panama Canal Zone. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in Fort Wayne, PA., Syracuse University in Onondaga County, NY., and George Washington School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. After an internship at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C., Dr. Taber was the General Medical Officer, US Army, at Fort Hood, TX. He completed his surgical residency at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and his urologic surgery residency at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., and served as Chief of Urology at the US Army Hospital in Nuremburg, Germany.
Dr. Taber moved to El Paso, Texas in 1972 and practiced surgery for over 33 years. After retirement from private practice, he worked at the VA Clinic in El Paso, Texas for another five years. He was involved in many local and regional professional organizations and medical service committees. In 2021 David was awarded the Albert Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who’s Who. He enjoyed working with patients throughout his career, and was passionate about healing anyone who sought his assistance. Dr. Taber was known by his patients, colleagues, family and friends for his goodness, generosity, kindness of heart, and great sense of humor, and would always say that joy was the levity of life. David had many interests and hobbies, including reading, traveling, scuba diving, photography, and southwestern art.
He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca of 37 years, sister Ann Warburton, children Sharon Silverman (Todd), Jeffrey Taber (Andrea), Andrew Taber, Richard Taber, and Michelle Astorga, and grandchildren Alex (Amalia) and Scott Taber, Taylor and Tyler Silverman, and Damian and Davina Astorga.
A private service officiated by Rev. Cindy Carlisle, with military honors, was held on September 30, 2023 at the Martin Funeral Home West in El Paso, Texas (website:dignitymemorial.com).
