Doris Pfirman passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2015, at the Regency of El Paso. A cherished daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and most importantly, friend, affectionately known as GGMa, she was 89 years old. Doris was born on November 25, 1925, in Orange, California, to Florence and Norris Mackel. She lived most of her life in her beloved Orange, except for a brief time spent back east after her marriage to John L Pfirman and for her last nine years spent here in El Paso with her family. She came to love El Paso with its friendly people and beautiful mountains. She greatly appreciated her time and new friends at MonteVista as well as the loving care she received at the Regency.
Doris was an avid bowler and competed at the national level with a variety of teams. She spent many hours playing bridge and other card games with her friends and family. She loved meeting and planning numerous high school reunions, proud to be an Orange Tiger. She was a familiar face for years at Hart Park where she owned the concession stand, often putting her children to work. In her later years Doris loved to travel around the states as well as abroad with her family and friends.
With her green thumb and brilliant blue eyes, both of which she passed down to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Doris will be remembered for her loving and caring spirit, her generous and sharing ways, and her wonderful acceptance of life and all it has to offer. She has truly touched the hearts of all who knew her and will remain there forever. She will be missed.
Doris is survived by her son, Greg Pfirman, (Lucy) of El Paso, and her daughter, Debra Pfirman, of Desert Hot Springs, California; her grandchildren, Jennifer Gilcrease (Paul) and John Pfirman (Erin) of El Paso, and Tenaya Heinrichson (Eddie) of Desert Hot Springs; and her great-grandchildren, Kate and Lucy Gilcrease of El Paso, and Shayla Bates of Desert Hot Springs. She is also survived by her brother Nealan Mackel and by many nieces and nephews, of whom she was particularly close to and loved by Terri Marr (Jack) and Penny Keller (Mike).
Funeral services will be at Fairhaven Memorial Cemetery in Santa Ana, California, on February 27 at 10:00 AM.
