Dorothy B. Smith, 97, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at her home in El Paso, Texas. Dorothy was born on May 21, 1926, to Otto and Felicie Bartholomae. She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary and Austin High School, where she was named football princess. Dorothy had a successful career in Civil Service, working with the Immigration Services, the US Navy Civil Service, and Fort Bliss, where she met and married the love of her life, Charles Robert (Bob) Smith. She retired after many years at the US Army Defense Center, where she worked as an Administrative Supervisor.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, and cooking and excelled in all these areas.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Felicie and Otto Bartholomae; her husband, Bob; and her sisters, Lucille Liggett and Virginia Brown. She is survived by her brothers, William Bartholomae and his wife Brenda, and Edward Bartholomae and his wife Renee; her sister, Joyce Collier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 15: 12:00 PM Mass at St. Joseph’s Church 1:30 PM Burial at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
