

Dorothy L “Laine” Johns died at her El Paso home on Monday, June 17, at the age of 93. She was born in Wales on July 11, 1930 to William and Dorothy (Hopkins) Watkins. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Dance in London and worked as an actress and dancer when she met Paul, an American GI stationed in the UK. They married in 1953 and made their home in El Paso where they had three sons, Paul, Bill, and Glenn. She founded and operated the British Ballet Academy until 1995 when she and Paul retired to San Diego. They returned to El Paso in 2007.
“Tutu” was known for her good humor, great story telling, demanding expectations, and for never procrastinating any task. She leaves behind her sons and their wives, Wanda, Mary Lee, and Rosie, 10 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband a granddaughter, Rachel, a sister, Jane, and a brother, Herb.
Funeral services will be on Monday, June 24th at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 1212 Sumac. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Fisher House Foundation.
