He was born June 13, 1938, in Vandalia, Illinois, to Jewell Catherine (Capehart) Gray and Hubert Douglas Gray. Doug was in the Marines then spent over 40 years in law enforcement in El Paso, joining the Police Department in 1960. Upon retirement he became Chief Investigator with the District Attorney's Office, then joined the U.S. Marshal Service.
Doug is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alice (Clark) Gray, sons Michael Wayne Gray, Tucson, AZ., Brian Lee Gray, El Paso, grandson, Jacob Lee Gray, El Paso, 2 nieces, who he called his girls, Kelly Ann Thompson, and Ronda Ruth Smith, Aunt Hay Hay, Hazel Sims, and his good friend, Ralph, who called Doug, Dad.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and his very dear friend, Freddie Bonilla. In his younger years he played golf, did some scuba diving and lots of vacationing with family. Later years he enjoyed playing cards, watching westerns and Dallas Cowboys on TV.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Douglas on Friday, January 9, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:00 pm with Pastor Herb Mims officiating at Crestview Funeral Home, located at 1462 North Zaragoza Rd., El Paso, Texas, 79936.
Douglas Wayne Gray will be remembered for his warmth and dedication to his family.
