

Edmundo Antonio Castañeda, born in El Paso, TX on March 13, 1940, went to be with our Lord on September 24, 2017. His parents were Edmundo Castañeda and Maria Luisa Garcia Castañeda. He was the eldest child in a family of seven: Georgina (+), Gloria, Cristina, Maria Luisa, Sylvia and Sergio. He was a hard working person who started working at the age of ten as a delivery boy for a customs brokerage firm. He graduated from Texas Western (UTEP) as a Metallurgical Chemist in 1963. He was drafted into the Army and was stationed at Nuclear Defense Laboratory at Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland in 1964. He married Amelia Amaya, his sweetheart of 5 ½ years on August 29, 1964. They had three children Amelia Irene (Ramon), Luisa Magdalena (Andres) and Edmundo Carlos (Veronica). The progeny of this patriarch are Ramon, Rebekah, Elys, Brianna, Sabrina, Lara, Paulina, Gabriel and Sofia, who filled him with pride and joy. He worked at Hughes Aircraft in California, and then as a Chemist at ASARCO for 31 years. At the age of 62, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and courageously fought for 15 years. He was an advocate for bettering the lives of its victims through his service as President of the El Paso Parkinson’s Support Group for several years. He will be remembered for his faith, tremendous work-ethic, optimism, responsibility, loyalty and for a heart of gold.
Viewing and rosary on September 28th from 6 PM to 9 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5054 Doniphan Dr. Mass on September 29th at 9 AM at St. Francis of Assisi, 5750 Doniphan Dr., to be followed by funeral at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 11 AM.
