
Efren Bocanegra Sr., age 82 passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2026, He was born in Cd Juarez Chihuahua on June 18, 1943, and proudly became a naturalized American citizen on November 17, 1972. Efren was a devoted catholic and member of St. Mark's Catholic church whose faith guided his path. He retired after 28 years , April 2003, from Union Pacific Railroad, El Paso TX.
Efren was preceded in death by his parents Rodolfo Elias Bocanegra & Antonia Duran Bocanegra, his brothers Rafael Bocanegra, Jose Fernando Bocanegra, and sisters Estela Montes De Oca and Mary Thompson.
He is survived by his wife Maria Dolores (Lola) Segura Bocanegra, of 65 Year, and children Debra Ann Bocanegra Martinez (John V. Martinez), Elizabeth Bocanegra Sida (Antonio Sida), Efren Bocanegra Jr. (JoNella Bocanegra), Grandchildren: Jennifer Nicole Gallinar (David Gerardo Gallinar), John B. Martinez Jr. (Nancy Y. Martinez), Toni Janell Elkurdi (Jordan Ryder Elkurdi), Jeremiah Martinez, Efren Bocanegra III, Ester Bocanegra, Elias Bocanegra, and Great grandchildren: Isabela Elizabeth Gallinar, Mia Gisele Martinez, Ethan Jacob Elkurdi, Aliyah Danielle Elkurdi, Layla Rae Martinez, and Lenon Rae Martinez.
Efren was highly respected amongst his peers, a person with distinct charisma, and a man of numerous talents from carpentry, ranching, cowboying, and even politics. He played the lead role bringing in the city water system into the Socorro ranchettes. He was truly admired and a unique individual. He had a great passion for his mechanical trade; rebuilding small engines to diesel locomotives and he got great satisfaction from hearing his engines roar. He loved the freedom of the open roads while riding his motorcycle. He was an avid outdoors man, which included camping, hunting, and fishing. He taught us life skills and to respect nature. He will be missed tremendously.
