

Elena (Martinez) Santos, 84, passed away on Tuesday, July 5 at Sunridge Memory Care in El Paso. She was a founding parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and was an active member of the church ministry. Elena was a friendly, social woman who enjoyed sharing a joke and making people laugh. She loved baseball and met her future husband at a game in Chihuahua. She also loved music and was always the first to get up and dance. Elena competed in several bowling leagues, expressed her artistic self through crafts and home décor, and made a world-class flan. She also enjoyed cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal. Elena was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on June 30, 1932. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Santos, her father, Adonio, her mother, Carolina, and her brothers, Oscar and Humberto. She is survived by her son, Professor Carlos A. Santos, her daughter-in-law, Dr. Deborah Winters, her sisters, Hortencia and Fabiola, and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. Elena also had many dear friends in the community. The family would like to thank the staff of Sunridge and Hospice of El Paso for their compassionate care. Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 2016 from 5:00-9:00 pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina Drive with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Mass will be on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 10970 Bywood Drive.
