Ellen Ruby (Gosling) Brochu passed away peacefully on July 20, 2021. She was born in 1931 in Holyhead, North Wales to May Hammond and John Gosling. She spoke often of her wonderful childhood, even though much of it was during war time. She completed high school at age 16, and was the Battle of Britain Queen in 1949. At age 19, she met and married her lifetime love, Raymond Andrew Brochu, who preceded her in death in 2002. During their 51 years together, they lived in El Paso, Texas and raised their family. She worked for over 20 years at McCrory’s Pharmacy, where she was loved by the customers, who continued to recognize her for decades afterward.
She enjoyed traveling but was quite content to visit with guests in her cozy home. In her final years, she was loved and cared for by her wonderful caregiver and friend, Espy Marquez. They shared many laughs together.
Mom was an encouraging and loving mother, inspiring her children to pursue their educational and career pursuits. She is survived by her six children, Marlene Crumley of El Paso, Texas, Michael A. Brochu and his wife Caprice of Telluride, Colorado, Paul R. Brochu and his wife Becky of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, Mary (Brochu) Bell and her husband Greg of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Anne Brochu and Michael Ferris of El Paso, Texas, and John F. Brochu and his wife Kim of Lucas, Texas. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Stephen John Brochu.
She was Nana to 12 grandchildren; Lea, Paul, Amy, Stephen, Bryan, Ellen, Andrew, Meredith, Danielle, Emilie, Julia, and Jack (who preceded her in death in 2016). She also had 10 great-grandchildren.
Everything could always be fixed with a cup of tea. Raise your teacup, and think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched, for nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so much.
“For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.” (1 Cor 15:22) There’s such hope there, such promise, and such joy to look forward to. We will be alive together.
