

Ellenor Gessner Oppenheim, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. Ellenor was born in Ellerbek, Germany and immigrated to the United States after World War II. Sponsored by distant cousins, she and her family arrived in El Paso in 1953. She graduated from Ysleta High School and went on to work for El Paso Natural Gas Company, and eventually served as a paraprofessional for Ysleta Independent School District for many years.
Ellenor was an avid gardener, loved challenging crossword puzzles, reading novels, walking her dog, Molly, and enjoyed opera and attending the El Paso Symphony. She was very passionate about animals and frequently supported the Humane Society of El Paso.
Ellenor is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Herndon Oppenheim, her two sons, Walter and Wayne Oppenheim, and her sister, Doris Gessner Bookout. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Karen Bezemek, and her husband, Michael of El Paso, and Julia Oppenheim of Houston, and her five grandchildren, Alex, Amanda, Clara, London, Logan, and her great granddaughter, Emery.
The family wishes to mourn privately but wants to thank Ellenor’s caregivers, Aly, Mary, Maria and Yolanda for the love and care they provided Elly the last three years. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or the Humane Society of El Paso.
