Emma Avitia Contreras, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2023. A graduate from El Paso High School in 1948, she worked for the County Tax Assessor/Collector’s office for more than 20 years and was also a teacher’s aide for the YISD working with disabled children.
She was the youngest child, and only daughter of Gabriel and Jesusita Avitia, whom she cared for until their passing. She is also preceded in the death by her husband Reynel, her youngest daughter, Rosemary, and her brothers Gabriel, George and Frank (Kiko).
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Martha Camarillo (Raul) and Rachel Alvarado (Eddie), and the blessings of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who knew her as their beloved “Memo”.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 27 from 4:00-8:00pm with a vigil/rosary at 7:00pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home 1060 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 28th at 12:00pm at St. Mark Catholic Church, 11700 Pebble Hills Blvd with a committal service to follow at 1:30pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave.
