ones at the young age of 78.
Enrique was born on April 28, 1946, in El Paso, Texas. He spent his childhood growing up at his grand- mother’s house with his sister and his cousins. At the age of 18 years old, he joined the Navy. He consequently served as a Communications Officer and a Radioman for 13 years on three different ships and six duty stations.
He is survived by many loved ones, including: his sister Josie Perales, daughter Monica Smythe and her children Ashley, Wesley and Bailey, daughter Bernadette Ortiz and her children, Josiah ‘Blue’, Anastasia ‘Tisha’, Aleah ‘Leah’ and Alannah ‘Rose,’ great-grandchildren Hailee and Johnathan, and many nephews, nieces, friends, stepchildren and step-grandchildren whom he all loved dearly. We will miss him so much and he will always be in our hearts.
Enrique loved spending time with his family and friends, taking care of his beautiful rose garden, dancing to oldies music, and being a handyman. Anything and everything that was broken could be fixed at Gran- dad’s/Ito’s house. He always talked about his stories from the navy and gave little tokens of wisdom that he learned throughout his life. He took great pride in imparting all his skills and knowledge into everyone who was special in his life, and everyone who knew him carries a little bit of his talents with them. He loved the sound of the ocean, which is likely where he is now spending time with his ‘Buddy’ in heaven.
A Home Going Service for Enrique will be held Monday, April 28, 2025 from 9:30 AM to 1:15 PM at The Door Christian Center, 1000 Kastrin St, El Paso, TX 79907. Following the Home Going Service will be a Graveside Service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906.
