Esperanza Garcia Lujan, 86, of El Paso, Texas, entered into eternal rest on June 18, 2025. Born on August 1, 1938 in Mexico City, to Francisco Dorantes Garcia and Raquel Pena Hernandez, she called El Paso home for over 70 years. Affectionately known as “Espy”, she was one of eight siblings. Her journey in life was one of compassion and love.
She was a loving and attentive mom, caring sister and loyal friend. She maintained her closest friendships for most of her 86 years which is a testament to the person she was. She had the rare gift of making everyone feel loved and welcomed. She never met a stranger. Mom’s faith was unwavering and her home was always filled with warmth, laughter and the mouthwatering aroma of homemade Mexican dishes – especially her famous tamales, salsas and chile rellenos.
Her faith, strength and sense of humor were gifts that she freely shared – and they will always be remembered.
Espy was also very proud of her 17-year career at Levi Strauss. Her strong work ethic, determination, and leadership earned her the position of supervisor, an achievement of which she was proud. She made many friends and memories there and cherished each one. In retirement, she enjoyed visiting with friends and traveling to see her family. Mostly, she enjoyed sharing with those she loved most the laughs and stories that will keep her always in our thoughts. She was always ready with a listening ear, witty reply, a kind word or wise advice – whichever you needed at the time, somehow, she knew which was best.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo Alberto Lujan, Sr., son Roberto Miguel Lujan, daughter Patricia Verdugo (Max), sister, Margarita Armas, brothers Victor Garcia, Ernesto Garcia and Heriberto Garcia. She is survived by her sons: George Roam (Lori), Guillermo Lujan, Jr. (Sandra), Luis Carlos Lujan (Sylvia), Martin Lujan, and Armando Lujan; and her daughters: Rebecca Blackmore (Lynn), Alicia Velasquez (Steve), Gloria Callaway (Robert), Monica Morales (Norman), Linda Lujan, and Irma Gil. “NTSP” is loved by numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her siblings: Rita Garcia Rodriguez (Juan), Ricardo Garcia (Frances), Agustin Garcia (Irene), and Santiago Garcia. She also leaves behind countless friends who were touched by her warmth and spirit. Her legacy of faith, love, and laughter will live on in all who knew and were loved by her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
