Evelyn M. Lennix Mitchell was born on December 13, 1932 in LaPlace, Louisiana. Evelyn passed away peacefully on January 29, 2019. She had been a resident of El Paso since 1958. She settled in El Paso with her late husband, Sgt. Richard Mitchell, who was stationed at Fort Bliss. Evelyn loved El Paso so much, especially tacos from Ben’s, that she and Richard decided to make El Paso their permanent home. She was married to Richard for 46 years until he passed away in 1994. Evelyn was an educator in Louisiana and worked with Project Bravo in El Paso. She was also an acclaimed seamstress and rose gardener. Evelyn loved to laugh and lived by Catholic teachings of generosity, humility, and kindness. Evelyn is survived by her children Richard A. Mitchell, Jr., Ellery B. Mitchell, Nelwyn M. Rosario, daughter-in-law Heroina (Nina) Hernandez Mitchell, and granddaughter Esther M. Rosario. Visitation will be Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 5-9 pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home, and recitation of the Rosary will be Thursday at 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be Friday, February 8, 2019 at 12 pm at San Antonio Catholic Church. Interment will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
