Francisca Lydia Sierra Gallegos "Lydia" found peace after a long illness surrounded by her loving children. Lydia was born in Canutillo, Texas on June 4, 1928. She was one of 10 children born to Josepha Enriquez Sierra and Estanislao Sierra. Lydia's faith was deeply rooted throughout her life. She was selfless, devout, kind and generous. She fell in love with Manuel "Manny" Gallegos and became a Navy wife. She loved traveling and meeting new people. Lydia was a phenomenal cook and could make anything taste delicious.
Lydia and her six young children moved to Ventura after her husband was tragically killed in the line of duty in 1964. Lydia focused on her children and the church. She was a firm believer in education and community service. She went to college while working full-time and earned her AA degree with honors. She taught her children numerous life lessons including the importance of humility, perseverance, creativity, humor, integrity, responsibility and compassion. These lessons remain strong with her children. She encouraged them to find adventure in the world around them and the best things in life are free such as the beauty of a sunset, breezes of the ocean, the smell of orange blossoms, the melody of life, family and the power of prayer.
Lydia worked for schools in the Ventura School District. She loved children and loved taking care of her nieces and nephews. She was an active member of Our Lady of Assumption where she served as an Eucharistic Minister and was a member of YLI and Guadalupanas. She is survived by her children Susan Gallegos, Rosanna Jackson (Gordon), Lydia Leonard, Michael Gallegos, Arthur (Art) Gallegos, Grandson Blake Jackson (Katie) and great- granddaughter Quinn Rose Jackson. Preceded in death by her husband Manuel and son David Gallegos.
