GAIL JOHNSON OGLE was born on November 3, 1951 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and passed from this life, at her home, on April 6, 2021 in El Paso, Texas. Her father was Willis Johnson and her mother was Gladys Marie Ables Johnson, both deceased. Gail lived in Chattanooga, Oregon, and southern California before moving back to Cleveland, Tennessee. There she met and married David Ogle, and gave birth to one son, David Wayne Ogle. In 1972 she moved to El Paso, and with her sister, Peggy, found work at The Cattleman’s Restaurant in Fabens, Texas. Soon, with the popularity of the steakhouse, her husband, David, and her mother joined the crew. Peggy married Jack Nunn, the son of the owner. When Cattleman’s was sold, the extended family: Gail, David, Peggy, Jack, and Gladys worked at The Cottonpatch, a disco bar in El Paso, owned by Jack and Peggy. It was a great success, but eventually they all decided that they didn’t want to be in the bar business, sold it, and opened the Great American Land & Cattle Co. on Alabama Street in El Paso. As most people know, that restaurant was a strong success for many years.
Gail was a traveler and loved the beach. She and Peggy enjoyed visiting Hawaii and New York City. She also loved animals. She was a fabulous cook and her down-home, southern cooking is legendary.
Gail loved being a mom and grandmother and is survived by her son, David Wayne Ogle; daughter-in-law, Krisanne Kennedy Ogle; two grandsons, Brandon Wayne and Tristan Cole (of North Carolina); a niece who was like a daughter, Tamara Baca; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Isaiah Moreno, Jake Baca, Frank Talavera, Jason Dempsey, Mike Olsen, and Bernie Garcia. Arrangements are at Del Angél funeral home, 8817 Dyer Street, El Paso TX 79904, phone (915) 751-1287. Visitation, there, will commence at 11:00 AM, funeral service at 1:00 PM, graveside service at 2:00 PM at Restlawn Cemetery, across the street from Del Angél. Catered reception will then follow at Del Angél.
