Gene Alphonso Evans, was born to the late James E., Sr. and Virtie M. Evans in Anchorage, Alaska on November 29, 1957. He graduated from Bel Air High School in El Paso, Texas where he was a star wide receiver in football for four years. After serving several years in the Arm Forces, Gene received an honorable discharge on March 14, 1982. Upon discharge from the service, gene became a truck driver working for several companies; because of health issues, his career in that field was cut short. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post 832. Preceded in death by his father, James E. Evans, Sr.; mother, Virtie M. Evans; sister, Irene Hatfield; and brother, Timothy Scott. Survivors include his son, Michael Evans of El Paso, Texas; brother, James E. Evans, Jr. of Bakesfield, CA; sister, Leslie Cherry of El Paso, Texas; sister, Debra Taylor of Dyersburg, Tennessee; sister, Loufield Henry of Washington, D.C.; sister, June Webb of Graysburg, North Carolina; sisters, Dorothy Yeager, and Shirley Graves of Petersburg, Virginia; and brother, Archie Scott of Graysburg, North Carolina; and his longtime companion, Margie Morales.
Gene will be greatly missed by family and friends, but welcomed by those who have gone on before.
