

George Allan Geno Sr., age 96, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, with son Ed by his side. George was born July 19, 1929 in Romeo (Macomb County), Michigan, to George Alexander Geno and Clara Hulda Haase. He was raised attending the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church with siblings Laura, Frances, Walter and Julie. After graduating from Rochester High School in 1947, he worked in the Ford factories of Detroit. With war in Korea, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in February 1951 and stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. By June 1951 he was sent to Officers Training School and attained the level of 1st Lieutenant. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church where he met Alice who was originally from Warroad, Minnesota. They were married at Trinity on December 20, 1953. He was honorably discharged on January 31, 1954 and released from the Reserves in January 1957. He attended Texas Western College, now the University of Texas El Paso and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1958. During college he worked as a campus policeman, and after graduation as an El Paso police officer. After college, his career started with Boeing in Seattle, Washington. George and Alice moved there with first-born, George Jr, at one month old. While there, they added Charles Edward and then Brian Daniel.
George Sr. worked on the B52, KC135 and 707 aircraft for Boeing, and on the Bomarc missile. Boeing moved him to Sedalia, Missouri and he worked on the Minuteman missile. Boeing then moved him to Huntsville, Alabama where he worked with Dr. Wernher von Braun on the Saturn rocket that launched the Apollo spacecraft to the moon. George then moved back to El Paso, where the Apollo program shifted to North American Rockwell at White Sands Missile Range. After Apollo, he worked on the predecessors to the THAAD and Patriot missile systems. His final work was as a special advisor to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on anti-armor warfare.
George lived in El Paso for 71 years. He rededicated his life to the Lord Jesus in November of 1975 while the boys were still home. After raising three Eagle Scouts, he continued in Boy Scout leadership another twenty-five years. He was on the board for Hogar de Ninos Emmanuel Orphanage in Juarez, Mexico and a past president of the West Side Optimist Club. He worked Texas Disaster Relief, was active in the Texas Republican Party, and was awarded certificates for donating 20+ gallons of blood over the years. He was in the Full Gospel Business Men’s organization, a member of the Horseless Carriage Club, and active in the Korean War Veterans Association. Since 2004, he and Alice attended and served in the Coronado Baptist Church. He loved Alice, and he loved the Lord. On September 25, 2022 George, at the age of 93 moved to Alabama to live close to son Ed.
George leaves a loving family of three sons, their wives, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, many dear nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends. He is preceded in death by wife Alice Hegstad Geno (2017) and his siblings.

George’s public celebration of life will be on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Coronado Baptist Church at 11:00am, with the funeral to follow, at 11:30am. Burial is at Ft Bliss National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
