

George F. Escalante, 89, went with his beloved Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on February 18, 2016 in El Paso, Texas surrounded by his family. George was born July 27, 1926 in Benedict, Kansas. He was a World War II Veteran who served in Japan in which he received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupational Ribbon (Japan) 2 Overseas Service Bars, and Victory Ribbon. He married his beloved wife Anita on January 16, 1949, in La Catedral Virgin de Guadalupe in Juarez. They were married for 67 years. George retired from the U.S. Army. He later worked over 30 years for Asarco. His favorite hobby was watching baseball and his favorite team was the Dodgers. He was a very loving man and his family will love and think of him each and every day.George is survived by his wife Anita P. Escalante and his eight children George Escalante Jr., Gloria Hillis, Raul Escalante, Mary Ann Hewitt, Yolanda Castrellon, Martha Escalante, Robert Escalante, and Lorenzo Javier Escalante. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Raul Escalante, Robert Escalante, Lorenzo Javier Escalante, Javier Lorenzo Escalante, Marcos Gomez, Kevin Hewitt, Gilbert Escalante, and Lee Hewitt. A Visitation will be held in honor of George, Monday, February 22, 2016 from 6:00-9:00 pm at the Hillcrest Funeral Home located at 1060 N. Carolina Dr. El Paso, TX 79915 with Rosary to begin at 7:00 pm. On Tuesday, February 23, 2016 a Funeral Mass will be held at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church at 11:30 am with a Committal Service to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
