Pastor Buster Russell, 78, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on September 18, 2026, in El Paso, Texas.

George ” Buster” Austin Russell was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to George "Big George" and Betty Russell. Buster lived a life marked by faith, adventure, and service. He attended Auburn University, where he played football before answering God's call to ministry.

Alongside his beloved wife, Judy, Buster spent eight years as a missionary in Mexico during the early 1970s, serving communities in Guadalajara, Colima, and beyond. Through radio ministry, church planting, and personal outreach, he faithfully shared the Gospel throughout Mexico and neighboring Nicaragua. Later, he pastored churches in Mississippi and New Mexico before settling in El Paso, Texas, where LifeGate Church became his home and ministry family.

In the 1990s, Pastor Buster continued his missionary work abroad, traveling to Russia and Ukraine to teach and share the Gospel. He never met a stranger and was known for his warm smile, generous spirit, unforgettable stories, and unwavering commitment to serving the Lord.

More than anything, Buster loved Jesus and dedicated his life to leading others to faith. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, encouraged, and inspired throughout his ministry.

Buster is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Judy Russell; daughters Kristina, Shannon, and Ashley; grandchildren Triniti, Micah, Joshua Adam Jr., Caleb Austin, Seth Michael, and Gabriel James; brother Bryce Russell and his wife, Carol; daughter-in-law Susanna; along with many extended family, church members, friends, and loved ones whose lives were enriched by his faith and friendship.

He was welcomed into Heaven by his son, Joshua Adam; granddaughter, Savannah Kay; sister, Melanie; and his parents, Big George and Betty Russell.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family rejoices in the promise that he has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

Celebration of Life will be held Saturday September 26, 2026, at 6:00 pm, at LifeGate Church, 10555 Edgemere, El Paso, Texas 79936.
