August 25, 1945 – September 30, 2026
Georgena lived a life filled full of laughter, adventure, creativity, and an unwavering belief in the power of positivity.
A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Georgena was an avid hiker, skier, environmentalist, and ballroom dancer. She found joy in movement, nature, and experiencing life to the fullest. Georgena spent her career nurturing young minds. As an educator, she began as an elementary school teacher and retired as the school librarian. Her love of children and storytelling followed her beyond the school walls. Through her beloved business, Face On Face Off, she brought smiles to countless children and families with face painting, storytelling, and balloon animals.
To many, Georgena will be remembered for her sense of humor. She believed life was meant to be approached with positivity and laughter. Georgena had a remarkable collection of memorized jokes, limericks, stories, and bits of humor, and was always ready to share whenever the moment called for a laugh.
Georgena was preceded in death by her parents, Ida Lee Askew and James R. Askew; her brother, James R. Askew Jr.; and her son, Albert Montgomery Mongold Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Gelene Mongold; her grandchildren, Michael Barber, Valerie Forshee (Mongold), Sierra Mongold, and Monti Mongold; Her nieces; Kari Raybon and Kristi Grooms and a nephew James R. Askew III, along with beloved extended family members, and friends.
Georgena leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, adventure, and memories. She was wonderfully unconventional, endlessly curious, and unapologetically herself.
She lived by positivity. She believed in laughter. And she made the world a little more colorful simply by being in it. In the words of Georgena, "When you think of me, I want you to feel happy and think positive thoughts!"
A celebration of Georgena’s life will be held on November 1, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at Keystone Heritage Park in El Paso, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, tell stories, and celebrate the remarkable life of Georgena.
