of God’s newest angels. Gertrude was born in 1927 in Colon, Republic of Panama. She graduated
from high school, went to medical clerk training and worked in Good Samaritan Hospital in Colon
where she met her husband of 61 years, Russell Lee Mann, at a hospital Fat Tuesday dance. Both
of her daughters, Nancy Jean Cordes and Virginia Lee Mann were born in Panama. She joined
organizations that worked for and helped the U.S. Army in Panama, Ft. Benning, Taiwan, and Fort
Bliss. In Taiwan she worked to help Taiwanese children. In El Paso, she was a member of the
Texas Aggies Mom’s Club and attended church on Ft. Bliss. She was an avid swimmer, an aspiring
pianist for which she attended classes at El Paso Community College, and a super nanny for her
2 grandchildren, Josh and Jason, and her three great-grandchildren, Jarod, Connor, and Lauren.
She had a wry British sense of humor which she loved to use on her son-in-law, John R. Cordes.
We love her deeply and will miss her more than words can convey. The Mann family will receive
relatives and friends on Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Funeraria Del Angel
Martin East with recitation of the Rosary to begin at 7:00 P.M. Scripture Service will be Friday,
March 19, 2010 at 8:30 A.M. at Funeraria Del Angel Martin East. Interment will follow at
Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
