

She is preceded in death by her parents, Freda and Abe Fuhr, her sister, Susan, and in-laws, Dorothy and Louis Slater.
She is survived by the love of her life and hero, her husband, Martin of 56 years, daughters, Carrie Gutierrez (Richard), and Donna Slater (Liz). Gladys is also survived by her brother, Philip (Karen), 2 granddaughters, Lauren Gutierrez and Elyse Gutierrez, brother in-law, Peter Shugart (Judy), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gladys was a fifth grade and gifted and talented teacher for 27 years with EPISD. She loved traveling, the cultural arts, going to the movies on date night, playing mahjong, shopping and casinos. What made her the happiest, was spending time with her family and friends around her.
A special thanks to her life-long friend and “sister”, Arlene Ellenburg, and her other close friend, Carol Teplitz, for loving Gladys unconditionally and always being there for her.
Also, thank you to all her wonderful and compassionate caregivers, Martha and Jamaysa Ricci and their staff, Hospice Nurse, Maggie Esparza, and all the caregivers at Home Instead Senior Care.
Graveside services will be held at B’nai Zion Cemetery on December 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Parkinson Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.
