Glenn Edwin Guy I, a 54 year resident of El Paso, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, September 27, 2021. He was born in Le Compte, LA. On September 13, 1932. He was raised in Port Arthur, Texas with his parents and four siblings. He attended grade school thru high school graduating from Thomas Jefferson H.S. in 1951. After high school, he went to work for Humble Oil Co. working in the oil fields in Midland, TX. Where he met his wife Harriette Garrett (Tibby). After a short courtship, they eloped and married on July 11, 1952. Leaving Midland, they moved to Houston where he then went work for the Texas Highway Department.
One year later, the love of their life Glenn E. Guy II was born at Methodist Hospital in Houston. Two years later Glenn enrolled at Texas A&M (1955) to pursue his education. Glenn II was enrolled at Wee Aggieland preschool and kindergarten. He and Tibby attended every football game and were active at First Methodist Church in College Station. He received a degree in Civil Engineering graduating in 1960.
He continued to work for the T.H.D. for 2 years in Houston and then went to work for C.H. Leavell Const. as an engineer designing the first NASA buildings in Clear Lake. In 1964, he was transferred to Cape Kennedy in Florida to work on Launch Pads 39 and 40 at the Space Center. The family followed 6 months later. After completing his assignment in Florida, he was transferred to Nassau, Bahamas where he was in charge of the first high rise bridge in the Bahamas from Nassau to Paradise Island. The family resided on Paradise Island and Glenn II attended school at Queens College in Nassau. The family enjoyed many outings such as boating, swimming and fishing. Glenn was always the captain of the boat.
After leaving the Bahamas, Glenn was transferred to El Paso for 3 months and then to New Orleans for a year. He then returned to El Paso with the family and resigned from Leavell to work for J.D. Abrams Construction in El Paso for the next 20 plus years. In El Paso, his first job was working on the first interchange (known as the spaghetti bowl). He made many trips to Austin for state jobs. He had his pilot’s license and flew his own Cessna 182 when going to check on some of the out of town construction jobs.
In the 80’s he was on the Board at El Paso National Bank and in 1981 was named Transportation Man of the Year. He was a member of The Civil Engineers Society and Professional Eng., Chi Epsilon and American Construction Association. In 1988, he left Abrams to form his own company. Due to a serious accident, he had to close the company in 1994 at which time he retired. In his retirement, he was active in The Lizzie Patrol at the El Maida Shrine and was Potentate in 1998.
Some of his proudest moments were when Doc and Debbie married; the grandchildren were born and Doc graduated from Texas A & M and medical school.
He was known as Papa or Poppy to his grandchildren and family. He loved the family and friends and he and Tibby made many trips to visit the family and travel many times to Canada, Mexico, Virgin Islands, Alaska and many other places in the U.S.
He loved the Lord and professed his faith in his everyday life by the loving care of his family and friends.

His parents, Arthur & Mary Lou Guy, siblings, Arthur II, Raymond, Estelle and Mary. His nephew Arthur Guy III and his beloved son Dr. Glenn E. (Doc) Guy II.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 69 years, Harriette (Tibby). His daughter-in-law Debra Guy.
Grandchildren:
• Carlye Birdwell (Grant) and children: John Douglas and Henry David.
• Lyssa Smock (Patrick) and children: Eleanor, Tyler Glenn, The Triplets, Elin, Ilsa and Matthias.
• Glenn E. (Trey) Guy III (Hannah) and children: Glenn E. (Quad) IV, Ava Claire, Tate and Lincoln.
Also adopted son & family:
• Tony Salazar (Barbara) and children: Jason (Ecklyn), and children, Tony & Nick.
• Travis (Aundi) and children, Aolani and Trenton.
Sister In-Law, Lindy Granger (Denis)
Nieces: Jamye Geovanni and Kelly Gaudin (Kenneth), Kathleen Stracken (Heath) and Karen Guy.
Nephews: John Garrett, Guy Walter Crossby and Lee Guy.
