Gloria Lopez Tovar

December 28, 1932April 2, 2021

Gloria Lopez Tovar, beloved matriarch, entered eternal life at the age of 88 on April 2, 2021 in El Paso. She was born on October 28, 1932. Gloria was married to her husband Ramón for 58 years and together raised their 6 children: Rosa, Jaime, Sylvia, Guadalupe , Gloria, and Reyes in El Paso, Texas and Sunland Park, New Mexico.

Gloria Tovar worked in El Paso, Texas for Hortex Manufacturing Company for many years. She saved her money and, together with her husband, opened up their own business: El Amigo second hand store on Stanton Street in El Paso, TX. Later in life, they moved to Columbus, NM and opened up a new store. Gloria was an inspiration beyond her business and family devotion. Gloria’s determined spirit rose above an illness in her late fifties that was considered incurable.

She was preceded in death by husband Ramón Tovar and daughter Rosa Tovar; siblings Jose, Maria del Refugio, Eduardo, and Jesus; and parents Reyes and Guadalupe Lopez. She is survived by her siblings Guadalupe, Ester, Juan, and Reyes; children Guadalupe (David), Sylvia (David Sr.), Jamie (Alicia), Gloria (Tom), and Reyes (Laura); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved and close to her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her resiliance, she said, came from her faith in God, love for life, and time spent with her children. She will be fondly remembered for her humor, love of boxing, baseball and fútbol.

She was a pillar of strength and the queen of our family.

My beautiful grandmother always had unconditional love for me. Loved me like a daughter and I loved her like my mother. I was her chiple 💓 I will forever cherish our memories together. “La quiero mucho grandma” and she would respond “Y yo a ti hija”
