Gregory Michael Denney passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 in Dona Ana County, New Mexico. He was 56 years old. He had been living in El Paso for the last three years and greatly enjoyed the desert life and spaces of this part of the country.
Greg was born on September 2, 1961 in Ottawa, Ontario and moved to the United States in 1964. He lived with his family initially at Ft. Bliss while his father was stationed there as a medical doctor. After leaving the army his family continued to reside in El Paso during Greg’s childhood. He was active in motocross and received numerous awards in this favorite sport.
He attended the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas during high school and graduated from there in 1979. While there he received recognition for his service in the Mounted Color Guard.
In 1980 he relocated to Odessa, Texas where he learned the trade of welding while attending school at Odessa College and working at Sunbelt Crane and Hoist. In 1983 he married Sarah Virginia Fisk from El Paso. In 1986 they relocated to the Dallas area where Greg continued working and attending school. Greg received his degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1989. In 1993 Greg joined a new start-up subsidiary of Bergen Brunswig Corporation, later to become AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group. His hard work and talent for operational management led to his eventual position as Director of Operations and later Vice President of Business Systems.
Greg parted ways with the company in 2008 and after a long illness returned to El Paso in 2015. He will be remembered for his love of the desert and motor sports as well as for his quirky sense of humor and a gift of gab.
Greg is survived by his daughter Lara Katherine Denney, son Justin Bradley Denney and grandson Bradley Carter Cherry of Allen, TX, father Robert Gordon Denney and step-mother Patricia Denney of Holiday Island, AR, mother Cynthia Lyman, brother William Campbell Denney of El Paso, TX, and sister Heather Denney of Holiday Island, AR. He is preceded in death by his sister Francesca Denney.
